Dexter Moren Associates announced as Sports & Leisure Architect of the Year Finalist

Dexter Moren Associates have been named as Sports & Leisure Architect of the Year finalist for Building Design’s annual Architect of the Year Awards.

Now in their 11th year, the awards celebrate great architecture and aim to reward practices responsible for the best overall body of work across a total of 13 different categories. Check out the awards shortlist in its entirety here.

Some of our featured projects included our design of the Otkritie Arena, the new home to FC Spartak Moscow and a key venue for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Our facade design provides a state of the art stadium which reflects the tradition and history of Moscow’s football club. The 47,000+ capacity stadium features around 600 giant glass shingles inspired by the Spartak diamond insignia to create an armour like effect. The ‘armour’ follows the curves of the building in each direction creating an overall appearance evocative of the coloured and textured domes of traditional Moscow architecture.

Hampton by Hilton Waterloo, also completed in 2014, is a first from the brand in central London and the largest outside the US. The hotel’s contemporary façade is made from precast concrete, with a series of windows that are recessed and angled alternately in different directions. The elevation subtly changes in appearance as the angles in the facia, combined with the use of cladding in different colour tones, capture light and shadow that vary according to the daylight conditions.
