The Otkritie Arena, FC Spartak Moscow’s new home and 2018 FIFA World Cup key venue, marks its official launch today with a match between the home side and Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade. The stadium is the first sports project built by hospitality architects Dexter Moren Associates showcasing a design that reflects the tradition and history of Moscow’s premier football club.

DMA’s façade design for the 47,000+ capacity stadium features around 600 giant glass shingles in an armour-like pattern inspired by the club’s diamond insignia. Each shingle comprises of nine to twelve panes of glass and measures 8m x 5m in size overall. The ‘armour’ wraps the entire stadium following the curves of the building creating an overall appearance evocative of the coloured and textured domes of traditional Moscow architecture. Digital media screens and façade lighting provide the stadium with a vibrant and animated appearance during both day and night engaging with fans in the immediate vicinity and in a city wide context.

As well as the facade and entrance pavilions DMA have expanded the design concept to also deliver the stadium’s interior spaces. Architectural in its approach the interior aesthetic is one of sharp lines, faceted shapes and industrial materials. Subtle incorporation of the shape and colours of the club’s insignia reinforce the Spartak brand and the stadium’s identity.

With the Otkritie Arena now complete DMA are currently developing designs for two Hilton branded hotels to be located within the wider Tushino Masterplan to the north of the stadium.
